I am new to this forum, even though I’ve been following it for a couple of weeks now. My name is Charles and my background is in programming not in electronics. I have a Robonova and over the past 5 months I worked with it and created some interesting experiments. Now I think that I need to change, NOT because Robonova is a not a good robot but since I made lots of changes to it (most of them sensors, and a camera) I have pushed him to the limit and the next experiments I have in mind require half a biped and half a rover - so what’s better than Johnny 5.
But before comitting myself to buy this one, I need to ask a question - Can I use the Robonova’s controller MR-C3024 to control Johnny 5, since I’m used to it now and you can easily attach sensors to it? Also, how difficult it is to control the Tritrack base through sabertooth? The controller has a TX connection. Is this enough to send messages to the TriTrack controller.
The robonova controller should work with the J5, as I believe it doers generate the normal 1mS to 2mS pulses.
The TriTrack base with the Sabertooth 2 x 5 RC uses the same servo pulses for control. 1.5mS will stop the motors. I don’t know if the hitec controller will be able to talk to the Sabertooth 2 x 5 with it’s serialo mode. Hope this helps…
Oops I thought that the Sabertooth could be controlled by text commands (like the SSC-32). After visiting the product’s web page I noticed that it has three servo type connections. Since it is controlled by servo pulses, can these connections be connected to the C3024 board (together with the other servos) and controlled by Robobasic commands that are used to move servos such as MOVE or MOTOR?
Note that there are two versions of the Sabertooth 2x5 - an R/C version, and a non-R/C version. The RC version has the servo connectors, the non-R/C version has screw terminals. The non-R/C version can be controlled via normal motor PWM, servo PWM, or two different serial modes.
Yes the C3024 can easily control the 2 x 5 RC. I do not know enough about robobasic to know if it can be used to send serial commands to the 2 x 5 RC. If you are using C or something else you should be able to talk to the 2 x 5 in serial mode.
The Sabertooth device produces 5V BEC which apparently (I read it somewhere!) can damage the C3024 controller. Is there a way of getting rid of the BEC produced (as I already said I am not a genius in electronics, my electronics capabilities are very limited).
