so i am wanting to order a Johnny 5 but have a few questions first.
this would be my first robot build besides one i built with my dad about 6 or 7 years ago (just a little soldering and that was it took a few hours to build) but i want something more detailed and cooler which the johnny 5 basically is. so for the questions:
i have a mac, can i program and if so what program do i need?
is it autonomous or would it have to be added? if so what would i need? anybody have a tutorial on how to do it?
any other thing anybody think i would want to know?
now building it i dont think i would have a problem at all. programming is what makes me a little unwilling to buy one of these. how hard is it? is there an easier way to do it?
i dont want to buy a cheaper robot and learn it first and then get this one (dont have money to have more than one)
There are people who have used a mac for robotics. It involves using a windows emulator though. Here is a thread with more information. lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?t=4247
All of our programs are PC based.
You will need a microcontroller to send commands to the servo controller. We recommend the Bot Board II and the Basic Atom Pro. It is beyond the scope of a single forum post to teach you everything you need to know to make the J5 autonomous. You will have to do a lot of reading, learning, and specific question asking on your part.
um…
The easiest way to control J5 is directly from the PC using our SEQ software. This is not autonomous operation though.
The only real advice I can give is for you to consider the purchase of a CH3-R hexapod. They are much easier to get working. Good luck with your decision.
