Hey everyone, this is a follow up topic of my old topic of the airplane, but incase u weren’t here/dont remember, hes a quick description
Its an old RC plane im restoring, (25 years to be exact, older than me ) so far i have cleaned itup in general, cleaned up the engine and fusealage and i have replaced the tail assembly
it still has the original servos and RC controller and everything, besides the tail assembly and the switch to turn the electronics on and the batteries, its all original
i have fixed the electronic system and all the servos work fine, i have yet to completely finish the tail assembly (need to put on the flaps and stuff that move) and i need to start the engine up but before that i need gas, anyway, without further adieu, i give you, the Jay Hawk (i think )
When taking pictures of up close enable macro (the flower icon) and also stand back far and zoom it. It will reduce glare and get a clearer picture. Use a tripod with timer to get steady shots if you have the shakes.
looks like th new tail is made of a type of foam? nice job, but I not sure if it will withstand the high winds ect. It may wobble causing the plane to rear out of control.
actually I’d be more concerned about what appear to be creases in the foam, if they are in fact creases. That is where you’ll get problems because the stab will tend to bend/fold along those irregular lines when under stress and the BIG issue with that will be the distortion of the hinge point for the elevator which can cause it to bind and you’ll loose control of the plane.
Id suggest to use some kind of plastic shrink and melt it over the entire foam wing to create a shell that will protect it. Evolution knows a lot about RC planes, im sure he’ll be around shortly.
actually yes, your right eddies, they are small little bumps thin there, my dog bumped into its when he came to see me , they arn’t too bad, but they are enough to be worried about, bte, id rather just throw some stregthening stuff on it rather than redo it, idk if i can undo my glue job
italkian guy, i do plan on putting sme type of something on that maybe something that goes around the tail aasmbly, not all the way around though, proabably on the endges, the horizontal elevator actually attaches to the rudder via struts (not in the photos) further strengthening it
btw robodude, i did use the flower thing,…it just didn’t work
as soon as i can get some white type of tape, im going to put the rudder and elavator on , then i shall hook up all the servo to everything andthen get some gas and try and start the beast…hasn’t run in 25 years gunna be quite the tough job
Actually it’s a diesel engine so if you have a new glow plug and the needle valve isn’t messed up it probably won’t be that bad.
You should find a local R/C person, somebody with a field box that has both an electric starter and a panel powered glow plug connector. rechargable Ni-starters are fine when planes start right up but most of them start to die out after 10-15 minutes of use and it’s damn tough to start an engine with a cold glow plug.
Just curious, what make is the engine? (my guess is fox, but it’s been awhile since I paid attention to IC planes and gear.)
