Hello,
Let me start with a brief introduction. I am a 59 year old CAD Designer and PLC Programmer (Seawater Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Systems).
I started playing with open source programming about 2 weeks ago and here is what I have done so far. The sketch (attached) is a modified simple object avoidance sketch.
Hopefully the changes I made with some help over in the technical thread would be considered improvements by the original author.
The Spidey was inspired by one I saw on youtube.
Pictures are attached and I don’t think my first effort turned out too bad as simple as it is.
Arduino Uno R3
Cytron 2A Motor Shield
HC-SR04 Sensor
2 Spider Kits from Robotshop

Hi,
Very cool stuff! Thanks for the nice pictures.
This is a good job for someone just starting out! So, what do you think your next challenge is going to be?
Sincerely,
Thanks,
For me personally I think I will move on to a tracked home monitoring type robot. Something I can build in stages as time and money allows. The end result in my mind would be a home security/mess with the dogs via the internet kind of thing.
Cause lets face it if you can combine the two hey why not. Something like a Johnny 5 clone but instead of arms and grippers lots of sensors and cameras and whatever else I can think of.
But the more practical application is to replace our current PLC based controls with something that allows more customization and is cheaper.
Switching motors on and off and opening and closing valves even when done remotely is pretty boring when compared to messing with the dogs though.
I will Keep you posted on both projects as I progress. I am sure I will have lots of questions.
Best Regards
Hi Art,
Congrats on the project! I think you did awesome if that’s your first effort!
My plans for ROVer are not dissimilar from your next steps… the whole “security” application seems to be a great excuse to try out a lot of different ideas.
