Hi, I have a project where I need to protect laser sensors from environment (dust, etc…).
The idea is to automatically (from an external on/off or voltage edge signal) open and close a small “door” that will close the sensor protection box when the sensor is not used. So I need to adjust the retract and extend limits.
My question is: If I use a PQ12 actuator with LAC, and I just set the end of stroke limit values with the board, is the actuator powered on permanently? would it reduce the life of the actuator?
The operating cycle would be something like 30-180sec extended and more than 20 min -Several hours closed.
Thanks for your help!
Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
When the actuator attain the desired position, you can stop sending the signal to the actuator.
Note that the actuator will never lose power, even at the min/max stroke
I believe a servo motor could also fit your application.
Note that there is no limit switch on this actuator and if it was the case, they aren’t adjustable on actuator.
The best way to have adjustable limit switch is to install external ones in your project.
Hi, and thanks for your reply.
This clarifies the fact that the power supply is always on, and unfortunately I cannot add externals limit switches… no room for it!
Do you think the expected behavior (P actuator , no limit switches, stop signal to stop the actuator in required position) can reduce life of the actuator ?
Thanks again !
