Iron Man-5 replacement option

For a Purdue Polytechnic 400-level course, we’re building tracked vehicles. Our team built our design around the Iron Man-5 unit, but now we find it is not available. I’ve looked at the Tamiya and the Lynxmotion Tri-track, both of which have significant differences as a stable platform from our design. Is there a substitute tracked chassis you can recommend, or is there any way to expedite the Iron Man-5? We’re scratching our heads right now on next steps.

I have also considered building our own chassis from the Lynxmotion parts that are available (tracks, sprockets, bearings, idlers), as the CAD models appear to be available for download. So this might also be an option. Feedback welcome on this idea.

Thank you for any suggestions you can provide,

John

We’re expecting a new shipment of RB-Knr-05 in around 28 days and apologize for any inconvenience.

You will likely find the Tamiya platform to be too small, so a good alternative is the Tri-Track.

If you have access to a CNC machine or laser cutter (or some other way to make a frame) and are confident enough to design your own chassis, feel free to do so.

Coleman, I agree with your recommendation on both chassis. We are planning to place the order for the Tri-Track, and build a new frame/side plates to create our desired size and shape.

Thank you,

John
