Hey, thanks for the feedback this kit is going to be amazing.
If you want to re-anodize them you can dip the parts in caustic soda to strip the anodizing if you want your own special colour.
Jim, it would be nice if you could get unfinished pieces.
Ok, ok, okā¦ Iām willing to break open the bundles for the anodizer. I will accept reservations for bare unfinished parts this week. I have not had time to calculate the pricing for these parts yet. I will try to have it done later this week. Chime in if you want un finished parts.
Iām in for a set of unfinished! (provided it is reasonable discount from annodized cost of course )
(How do I mirror-finish them anyone?)
/sigh
Ask for an inchā¦
And I will take a foot!
But seriouslyā¦ I canāt be the only person wanting unfinished? Can I?
This is tempting because Iād get it sooner, but my son is dead set on black (even though I want green)ā¦
yeah Jim had said he was going to do some of them in green so that is what I am waiting for as well.
Chiming inā¦

As per our phone conversation, put me down for a set of unfinished bits.

OMG, she (Phoenix) is a beaut. I was considering to go from biped scout to the humanoid, but lately Iāve been thinking about the 3DOF hexapod (ch3r in particular). But after seeing this, I might wait for this instead. Just the size difference between this variant and the original makes it more attractive for meā¦ Please let us know when this kit will be released!!!
Jim, any updates on the availability of this kit? Iāve been thinking about either this kit or the CH3R. I know youāre taking pre-orders for non-anodized but I wouldnāt mind waiting for the anodized finish (the different colors would be a nice touch!!!). Couple of question regarding the Phoenix:
-
Will the chassis and leg pieces be offered separately (like other SES parts)?
-
Does the tibula and the servo that itās connected to have a āflexā problem due to that servo not having a hinge on the opposite side of the servo horn?
On a side note while we are all waiting with baited breath for the kits to be releasedā¦
What is the size of the largest rectangular cube that will fit inside the Pheonix? I am looking at new batteries, and would like to get one that fits
Guys you can see a picture of it in the new robot magazine. Its toward the end of the magazine.
I am just to the point where I can start working on this. It wonāt be too much longer.
The parts will be available only as complete hexapod kits. I am doing this as a test project. If it goes well we may add the parts to the normal SES lineup.
I donāt consider it a problem, just a condition you have to be aware of. The kits will require a servo with a metal final gear. This robot design will never have the payload capacity of the *H3/*H3-R kits. Itās design is supposed to be sporty and stylish, not utilitarian. If it concens you then you should opt for the traditional SES design.
The space inside is about 3.5" x 6". My assembled unit is in France, so I canāt be more accurate than that. I will have an update very soon for all who want these parts anodized or otherwise.
I was wondering if you are planing on offering this as a r.t.w. kit,we assemble it but everything is included like ch3-r. I am on the brink of buying that one but I like this one better not trying to push or anything I have read the thread and know it would be a little while.
Ok, Iām in Phoenix mode!
For those who are still interested in getting these parts unadodized here is what I have come up with. Note, we will not have assembly guides or program support for some time. These parts were waterjet cut right here in the good old USA, so they were the most expensive parts we have ever tried to implement into a kit. The parts only include the Body top, body bottom, and 6 femurs and 6 tibias. You will still need 6 ASB-04 pairs to build the assembly. So the cost is $69.95, the anodized price will be a little higher. So I am going to need to know who is still in so I can get the parts separated and get the rest to the anodizer. I offer you all my most humble appologies for this taking so long. We are experiencing higher than normal sales volume and are doing our best to keep up.
EDIT Update: We are including the 4 aluminum hex standoffs and 6 bearings for the chassis, the rubber end caps for the feet, and the mounting hardware for the servos. All you will need are 18 servos, 6 ASB-04 bracket pairs, 18 aluminum servo horns would be a good upgrade. This will build a robot ready for whatever electronics you want to install.
So the kit is only 69.95 which dosent include the ses parts is that correct?
Paul
Yes that is correct. Iām going to shop around a little more agressivly on the next run.
