I have attempted to install RIOS 1.04 on a Windows XP computer in a multi user environment. I installed the software as an Adminstrator, but all the users of the computer are “standard” users. The program runs normally as an Administrator, but when a standard user attempts to run the program, the program attempts to install for that user. Error 1708.
Providing all users administrative access to these computers is not an option. Has anyone experienced this issue before? If so, how can I resolve it?
the only way to make a “shared by all users” RIOS program work is to promote all of them “administrator” in order to allow access to the ini files and Database…sorry.
But…
there’s a way to use several RIOS programs (from an unique installation as administrator) to work with several users (limited account) on the same computer (not on a TSE).
the limitations are :
each user will have it’s own database/projects, it’s own ini files and parameters.
That means if one is adding a project or is modifying an existing one it won’t be shared with the others (he can export the project and then each of the users will have to import it in its own database).
it will use more than 5Mo (+ the Database size expansion) by user.
an unique session must be open at a time if using a Real robot as the COM port connexion is not shared by an unique program but duplicated on each user’s application.
any update to RIOS program version will need a bit more work to install !
if you’re interrested i will post here the way to do this.
Hello,
so :
1 : open an administrator session and install RIOS (if already installed go to step 2)
2 : enter the RIOS serial number, configure the SSC-32, the arm, etc…
3 : Close RIOS
4 : then go to “C:\Program Files” and copy (copy, not move) the “RIOS_SSC-32” folder to another place (“C:” for example) and add to the folder name the user’s initials, like “C:\RIOS_SSC-32 LG” for example, this will be the user “LG” RIOS copy.
do the same for each user.
5 : we need to delete all bad shortcuts to the RIOS programs for every users and create new ones :
open the “start” menu then “programs” and select the “Lynxmotion RIOS SSC-32” folder with the right mouse button (keep pressed) and move it to the desktop, release the right mouse button and select “move to here” in the menu
then move it back the same way to the start menu (hovering the start menu with your folder will open it, then hovering the “programs” menu will open it too, just release the right mouse button where you want to insert the folder. this will delete these shortcuts from all users start menu and re-create it only for you.
6 : deleted the RIOS shortcut on the desktop,
then open the “C:\Program Files\RIOS_SSC-32” folder and right click on the RIOS exe icon (keep pressed) and move it to the desktop, now release the right mouse button and select “create a shortcut here” in the menu. this will delete the shortcut from all users desktop and re-create a new one only for you
7 : open an user session
8 : open its RIOS folder “C:\Program Files\RIOS_SSC-32 LG” for example
and create a shorctut to the RIOS exe inside on its desktop
