Installing Atom Pro on Bot Board II

Hey all,

I am very new to Lynxmotion and have recently ordered one of the A4WD1 rover kits. I am having a good time reading these forums to see what everyone is working on and creating. I just have a small question which I have looked all on these forums and in the guides, instructions and pictures online.

When I got to the point to place the Atom Pro on the Bot Board II it seemed like it did not want to fit well due to the width of the Atom Pro.

I clipped the connector leads basically in half because I did not think the long connector leads should fit in the board like that or have the chip stick out from the board that much, so halfway I push them in and it seemed to have went in place but still sticking out, so then I trimmed the connectors again and tried to replace it in the board it fit but now I am afraid it may fall out because the leads are not that long? The plasic also I think cracked from me placing some pressure on the chip trying to get it as close as possible to the board.

Anyhow I am going to test this one and may need to order another one and another board incase this one is damaged, it looks ok but does anyone have a closeup of the Atom Pro installed in a board or if you are suppose to trim these connectors so the Atom does not just look like its floating on the board? Thanks alot sorry for rambling on a bit

You’re not the first person to comment on the fit of the Atom and the socket. But you are the first one to cut the leads in hope to make it fit better. All you really need to do is hold the chip on it’s side, on the table top. Gently but firmly rock the IC in the direction that angles the pins in toward each other. Then carefully align one side, then the other, then press it in. Because this is not the first post on this subject, but mostly because you cut the leads, I will photograph and document the process.

The tutorials are not detail packed for the insert the Atom into the Bot Board step, but in our defense it also does not tell you to cut the leads. :frowning:

Here is an image of a typical installation of an Atom Pro chip on a Bot Board II. Note: No leads were injured in the installation of this chip.

Thanks for the quick response, yeah I will test mine when my batteries come and will probably end up ordering another one if I did in fact damage it. I just thought wow these leads are way to long must come like this default from factory for easier foam shipping ::snip:: ::snip:: oopsy

good to see no leads were injured during the photography lol

The dual wiper dip sockets are actually better than the machine pin sockets. The older bot boards used machine pin sockets which required even more finesse when forcing the BAPs in.

Let me tell ya, it was quite a battle…

We(Basicmicro) have found a new manufacturer for the lead pins so the new modules(next batch I hope) will have straighter lead pins and will fit much better into those old machine sockets.
