Hi!
I was wondering if there is a kit to make an infrared light therapy box with 660&850nm bulbs? My brother, (who is a psych patient) has just been diagnosed with cancer and is refusing treatment. As he lives on disability benefits he cannot afford the extortionately expensive therapy boxes out there, but I notice that hydroponic grow lamps are much cheaper, but are the wrong wavelengths. I wonder if there is such a kit, where you can choose the different bulbs, or if Robotshop could put one together? I have bought him a small lamp, but really he needs a large box to give him the greatest chance of boosting his cellular structures & immune system, especially as we think it is spreading. I’m just desperate to try to help him stay alive and a multipronged attack with all natural therapies is all we have left? Any advice/information or a kit would be gratefully received.
Thank you.
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
Can anybody answer if I have 660 or 850 infrared bulbs, if the beam of light, I assume the output, would be stronger if I have more kw of power, or does the beam output stay the same? Or if they are surrounded by reflective cone shape will that enhance the output, just increase the distance it can shine? Sorry to be so pathetic with my knowledge and I know it is not robotics as such, but the knowledge crossed over in the components, about which I know nothing?
Hopefully somebody can spare a min or two to let me know if I’m wasting my time?
Thanks in advance.
Hello @Bamboozled,
I am sorry to hear about your brother’s condition and hope he gets better soon. Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with LED therapy but I did some research and I think you might be interested in these:
If the biggest problem is the budget, a good option would be to build one yourself, however, I don’t know if there are power requirements for the therapy to work, so I can’t recommend a specific one, ideally, you should consult an expert in the area.
As for your question about the power, the more current you apply to the LED the brighter it will shine, however there is a limit to this, if you apply too much current you could burn it out, you can find more information about this here:
https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/light-emitting-diodes-leds/all
The only LED we have in the store that works in the wavelength range you mentioned is this one:
https://www.robotshop.com/en/sfe-infrared-850nm-led.html
However, it is not a high power LED so if building it yourself is the route you want to take I suggest looking for the LEDs on Mouser:

And maybe some lenses?

I hope the information is helpful and I wish you the best!

Thank you so much, I will investigate all these links & watch the video. The other thing I have to be careful of is the EMFs, (very bad for health, especially if you have cancer, they mutate DNA & are everywhere!) but which can be suppressed with some Tourmaline, another journey, but if I can start somewhere hopefully I can get a good compromise?
Thank you once again, I’m off to investigate.
