Ideal Battery for the T'Rex Motor Controller and Wild Thumper 6WD Chassis

Hello LMR Rockstars!

What's the best battery to use with the T'Rex Motor Controller and Wild Thumper 6WD Chassis? I'd like as much speed, torque, and runtime as I can safely get. I've been using a 3S (11.1V) 30C 2650mAh. Could I go up to a 4S (14.8V)?

I know that the T'Rex can handle that voltage (up to 30V), but does it properly reduce the voltage for the Wild Thumper motors (7.2V)? The T'Rex manual states that the motors are powered directly from the battery, so it seems that the answer is "No". But does that mean I shouldn't even be using a 3S with the Wild Thumper? Is a 2S (7.4V) the max?

Thank you so much for your help!

Chris

Datasheet

The datasheet of the Wild Thumper says that the motors are rated 6v (2v - 7,5v), so without stepping the voltage down you’ll burn up the motors eventually. With only 5,5A stall current cheap buck converters will do the job quite efficient, if you really want to use 3s or even 4s batteries.

Edit: just read the datasheet of the Trex. As 6677 said, lowering the duty cycle will do. Still I would use 2s batteries if possible,

I’ll go with 2S

Thank you for your great responses!

I will limit the PWM to 50% for now, and I’ll order a couple/few 5000mAh 2S batteries for the long run.

I really appreciate the fast responses and thorough answers.
