I am working on a school project that requires me to build a robot that is fixed to the floor but rotates around the hips. I am looking for a servo motor that can rotate the hips using a joystick/controller (around 35 lbs of weight). Should I use a servo motor and if so, what torque rating should I get?
Hello @UnitaryMethod and welcome to the RobotShop forum!
Since you mentioned “hips” I’m guessing you are referring to a humanoid robot. Is that correct?
Do you need it to rotate along the z axis? If that’s the case then you could use a “base rotate” kit, for example:
And yes you can use a servo.
These equations can help you calculate the torque needed:
I hope that helps!
