I need guidance to which ESC to install for two 18 V motors (taken from cordless drill)

I am new here.

I have six 18V DC775, I would like run for a battle bot 4 for wheels and 4 for rotational disks.

In terms of connection and set up i would like to ask which ESC, Speed Controller, is suitable for the application. should i connect motors in parallel or series. what suitable battery that would give me 5 minutes minimum time.

again I need guidance i know my questions are broad and all i ask is guidance to at least what should i be looking for. and possibly where to look for it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Welcome on the forum.

I’ll try to guide you the best I can.

1- The DC775 motor is a DC motor. You will need to check the specifications of this motor (current draw, max voltage…) in order to choose the right motor controller.

2-In terme of setup, I really like the Sabertooth Motor Drivers, they are simple to connect and operate: https://www.robotshop.com/en/catalogsearch/result/?q=sabertooth&order=relevance&dir=desc
Some of them are R/C ready which mean you can connect your RC receiver directly on it to drive your motor.

3-Best way to connect you motor is the 2 Left Motor in parallel and the 2 Right motor on another channel in parallel. In parallel, the motors will take the same voltage but the current will ‘‘double’’. Make sure your motor driver is able to drive 2x the DC775 per channel.

4-Try this great tool to make your calculation: https://community.robotshop.com/blog/show/drive-motor-sizing-tool
It will help you also choose the right battery or know what Capacity you will need.

Hope this help!
