I dont know what this LED is ... any ideas?

ok i have a few of these LEDs and i dont know what they are for i think they might be IR LED, i have tried putting a power source through them from 3-9V and it does nothing. any ideas at all i have about 500 of these my friend gave me and not a clue what they do...

Did you try looking at them

Did you try looking at them using a camera when they are powered on ? If they are IR they will glow a purple whiteish colour. Use the camera on your phone and test with a TV remote (some cameras might have filters that block out IR light).

thank you tired my phone on a tv remote, then tired it on the LED nothing isnt IR then

if you put 9 volts through

if you put 9 volts through that LED it is probably not an LED anymore because it has leaked its magic smoke
