This is going into a 34 year old RB5X robot that’s been sitting dormant for, oh, 32 years, so I’m really excited to have it mobile again. I’m using a Raspberry Pi 2 as the primary processor (with WiFi and Bluetooth on board) and an Arduino Mega slaved to the RPi via USB/Firmata for the I/O. I’ve also got a 5" 800x600 HDMI touch screen on the way that I plan to mount in place of the old control panel. Should be pretty cool when it’s all up and running.
I don’t suppose anyone out there has figured out how to pull a digital feed off of the video side of the Hubsan, have they? I’d love to be able to publish the video as a webcam feed via the RPi but it might be easier to just include a second USB camera.
So I did get this working with the Sabertooth (here’s a video to prove it), but unfortunately it’s not reliable. I power up the remote first, wait for it to say ‘bind to plane’, then apply power to both the video and the receiver. About one time in 20 everything works OK and I can drive the robot around as you could see in the video. The rest of the time, everything looks fine from the remote (bind works OK, video works OK) and the Sabertooth (the status light goes from dim green to bright green, which indicates that it’s receiving PWM from the receiver). However when I move the remote controls, nothing happens.
I have tried this with both a servo as well as the Sabertooth, so I’m pretty sure this is some kind of weird issue with the receiver.
I’m pretty sure that everything is wired OK, since when it does work, it works well, but something definitely appears to be wrong.
Any other ideas? If not, I’m going to go the RMA route.
That’s unfortunate, it would have been cool since all integrated (with the DIY remote)
You can request a RMA by going HERE and select the right department. Make sure to link to this topic so it’s easier for the team to proceed.
There are other solutions available and if you are using a Raspberry Pi, you might want to use a compatible Camera to get the stream. HERE is a project that use similar equipment…
Can you tell us which product you ordered from RobotShop? It is odd that you would not get the compatible receiver. If this does not relate to the topic, please start a new thread.
I’m sorry, I didn’t order it from RobotShop, I’m just looking for the modelnumber for the receiver in this DIY Kit.
I can’t seem to find the one that could be used to control a car… only the ones for a copter or a plane.
