HS-805BB Giant Scale Servo Motor gets very hot

Hello,

I am using HS-805BB Giant Scale Servo Motor for a robot arm. Within about 5 mins of use this motor gets very hot. This motor should have more torque than necessary (required torque was calculated using the mass of materials being used). While in use, this specific motor does not get much down time, but since this motor has more torque than required, I did not expect any problems.

Anybody else have similar problems? What could be the reason for the heating problem? Any solutions/suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks!

The 805BB is also use in the AL5D at the shoulder. It’s important that the servo have downtime (a duty cycle of about 20-25% is ideal). If the servo gets hot, then something is wrong; either something internally is preventing it from moving, or the actual torque is quite a lot higher than the calculated torque. Try the Robot Arm Torque Calculator.
