I am trying to remove the horn from the hub of the servo, but am unable to remove the screw. I tried removing it a number of different ways, but it would not budge and the screw is now stripped. Is there any way of salvaging the motor or do I need to get a replacement.
My recovery plan is:
1: Accept the fact the horn and the screw are scrap.
2: Use my Dremel-like-device (DLD) to cut a deep slot in the head of the screw and try a flat blade screwdriver to remove the screw.
3: If that doesn’t work, use my DLD to cut the head off the screw, as high as possible. By “high” I mean, far away from the body of the servo. That should allow me to remove the remains of the horn and get to the shaft. I’d clamp my Mole-grip-like-device (MGLD) on the shaft and twist the screw out.
4: In the process I’d strip all the gears in the servo & render it useless.
5: I’d remind myself not to tighten them up so much next time and bin the servo. Cursing as I went.
6: I’d visit eBay, Amazon or my other favorite servo source and tell them what I’d done, in an effort to lighten their day.
