How to Make a Drone / UAV - Lesson 5: Assembly

can i make drone on atmega16

@satyam pandit Anything is possible, but it really does not have a lot of memory.

Sir, I use a 50cm ( + ) shape frame… 1000KV BLDC motor and 1045 inch propellor but my quadcopter dosent fly. I also tried with 845 inch propellor, problem is same… what I should do to make it fly?

@Paul Biswajit We will need many more details than that. Please create a new topic on the RobotShop Forum and provide photos.

Thanks for your very informative lessons. To the best of my understanding I can make a drown that can carry say 6 to 9 KG with almost $2000. However such drones in the market cost over $5000. I’m wondering if you have a clue why this is so? Thanks.

@Reza If you create such a robot on your own, you never factor in the design cost, offsetting the cost of equipment etc. Since there is not a huge demand for large drones, manufacturers cannot produce them in high volume.

great explanation sir!!
but we had a doubt regarding pdb . so we are using 30amp esc and we didnt understood what pdb we must use.in the sense that what should be the maximum capacity of pdb .we were struck here!!please help us…

@akhil The PDB needs to handle the max current of all of the motors since the source is the main battery. If your motors will consume the 30A max of your ESCs, then multiply 30A by the number of motors you are using. If you’re not sure, create a new topic on the RobotShop Forum with details / specs of your project, as well as the motors and ESCs.

Sir,i am making a quadcopter my components are: 3500mah 10.5v lipo battery,1045 propeller,30A esc,1400kv bldc motor,kk2.1.2 flight controller, fly sky R/F module, i have a problem my esc were burning every time i try to fly my drone can you tell me the reason and guidance to solve this problem

@Swaraj You really need to check the maximum current of the motors you use and ensure the ESCs can provide more than that continuously. For example if the max current for a motor is 30A, ensure the ESC can do at lest 15% more continuously - a 40A ESC would be good. If that’s not the issue, check that your method of distributing power from the main battery can handle the current. Last, check that to se if your ESCs have BEC circuits which are providing 5V on the red wire - you would not want to have all of them connected.

how to change fixed wing aircraft to vtol what parametry are requrid pls inform me

@zewdie Not many flight controllers have integrated dual mode from vertical takeoff to fixed wing based motion Since there are so many possible designs. You may have to “live swap” between the two mid-flight.

Great explanation sir, I am reading from the first lesson and I am able to understand each and everything and also able to do it practically at home.I was able to find good info from your blog posts

@technikola We are happy to hear that you find the posts useful.

Hi Sir, I am planning to integrate a robotic armor gripper to the drone. Gripper will pick around payload of 4kg weight. Is this feasible to execute. I want to know how to calculate the motor tech reqmts design for the payload of 4kg. Kindly suggest hexacoptet or Octacopter reqd

4Kg payload in addition to the weight of the drone, battery, gripper etc. makes for a fairly large (and likely expensive) platform. You can estimate that the drone itself might need to weigh around 8Kg to be able to lift 4Kg, so in a hexacopter (six motor) configuration, your motors will need to be able to provide 2Kg of thrust to maintain the load, or closer to 4Kg of thrust to accelerate upwards with it. As such, you can try to find a motor + propeller combination which can provide 4Kg of thrust, and ensure the frame is solid enough to withstand the forces, but light enough to include a decent sized battery. Unfortunately RobotShop doesn’t carry a motor + prop in that thrust range.
