How to go straight ahead (Tamiya Twin-Motor Gear Box)?

Hi,

I’ve started to build a robot with a Tamiya Twin-Motor Gear Box, a Tamiya Ladder-Chain & Sprocket Set and a L293D.

I am currently facing an issue.

I applied the same PWD on each Enable of the L293D and the two motors and the robot didn’t go straight ahead.

Instead, it turned because the speed of the two motors seems to be different.

I tried to manage it by adjusting the PWD, but it still doesn’t work.

How can I do?

Thx in advance,

Eric

Hi,

Even if the two motors of the Tamiya Twin-Motor Gear Box are the same, the RPM is not perfectly identical. This small difference will be amplified from the motors output shafts to the gearbox output shaft through the tracks resulting in a difference of speed between the right and left track causing the robot to rotate instead of going straight.
The only way to drive your robot straight is to use feedback sensors (encoders) and drive the motors in a closed loop configuration.
One solution is to use this Encoder Pair for Tamiya Twin Motor Gearbox.
