How much Torque do i need please

Hello,
So i am going to design/build something i have wanted to do for a lifetime, so now i am retired I can make ERIN happen.
ERIN is Electronic Robot with Integrated Navigation, ERIN is going to be an autonomous mapping four wheeled robot.
Initially with ordinary 70mm’ish wheels that i will probably replace with Mecanum wheels.
ERIN will have a footprint of about 150x150 to 200x200 mm square, with a motor/wheel at each corner.
The motors, as yet unselected will have integrated reduction gearbox and be of full metal construction.
Power source will be 2200mah 12v lipo’s with buck converters to drive the two or three microcontrollers, sensors etc.
I am taking a guess here and saying the all up weight will be about one Kg optimistically, but i guess maybe be more.
Question is how much motor/gearbox torque will i need for a brisk walking pace 2 m/s (4 mph) robot please?
Many thanks imk

Hello @imk and welcome to the RobotShop forum!

ERIN sounds great! I hope you’ll be sharing how it turns out in the Robots section.

I suggest you use this tool to estimate the torque that your motors will require:
