Hi guys, I was wondering if used properly without making the servo hot (such as forcing it go to an unreachable position), how long is the average life of a Hitec servo? Do I have to replace a servo after a certain period of time to keep the quality of their work?
Thanks guys!
If a servo works within the first few hours, it should work for a very long time. Hitec does not give any life expectancy data for their servos (we have asked before). We have not really had to replace a Hitec servo in a really long time, except where we pushed it beyond its limits, or an inherent issue (not enough torque) eventually stripped the gears.
Very interesting question.
I have a spare box load of hs645mg servos, of which some iv had for over 5 years and have been used in over 7 or 8 different projects.
As far as im aware, they are still perfect.
I know that when servos are launched on to the market, that the customer is their biggest tester, but I do believe companys do continue to run performance test on there servos. One would even go as far to say they probably still have a few servos running these tests from a few years ago that are still running today on the same servo.
But saying that… some will fail you.
I’ve had servos in service 24/7/365 for several years as lightly loaded webcam pan/tilt servos. They do wear out, with the internal pot wear probably being the weak link in my setup.
