Hello, I’m Alison and I got my Litter-Robot after 2006 so I think it is a “Litter-Robot II.” I noticed the engine sound getting quieter/weaker, and now it has stopped working completely (the gear won’t turn). I see the motor for sale on your site for $46. Is it difficult to replace?
If you have seen the motor getting weaker and finally stop, the issue is most likely with the motor itself. Do you see the yellow light turn on when the Litter-Robot is turned on? If so, this means that the Litter-Robot is getting power but, not the motor. The cause is generally the motor or the harness bringing power to the motor.
The motor is not difficult to replace if you are a handy person. If your Litter-Robot is slightly older and has rivets instead of screws, drilling the rivets is the hardest part and the rivets can then be replaced with screws.
We unfortunately do not have instructions for replacing the motor at this time but, a few youtube videos are available if you would like to watch them before proceeding.
Thanks Julie. Here’s my update: I think the motor went bad because I did hear it weaken before it stopped working completely, however, I am also concerned that there could be a wiring problem. The other day as the motor was dying, the yellow light was flickering. Now when plugged in, there is no sound of a dying motor, and no lights whatsoever. I tried the power cord from my other Litter-Robot and it was the same, so this rules out a faulty power cord.
What do you suspect if no lights will turn on at all? If the power cord works, then could a bad motor be to blame for no lights? If so, great- I’ll just replace the motor. Or does this sound like a wiring problem to you? Perhaps there is a disconnect somewhere -I’ll have to check inside the box. I don’t see any corrosion from the outside where the power cord plugs in. Are wiring problems easy to fix?
Lastly, I see I can buy a motor for $46 from you AND from Litter-Robot.com. Is there any advantage to buying it from you (in terms of a warranty)? I don’t think Litter-Robot.com offers any warranty for a new motor, do you? I bought my box from Litter-Robot.com.
Thanks for your help!

P.S. Can I just use regular hot-glue to mount my new circuit board inside the plastic cover? (this is a separate issue/box from the one with the motor problem)
Hi AlicatsL,
It appears that your questions have not been answered through this forum post and we apologize for the inconvenience caused. Were you able to fix your issues with your Litter-Robot? If the light is flickering, there could indeed be an issue with the wiring in the Litter-Robot. Probably from the Litter-Robot jack not making good contact.
It would be a good idea in this case, to open up the Litter-Robot and see if there is corrosion near the motor contacts and the jack.
We do not recommend using hot glue near electronics but, if it is to fix the circuit board to the control panel holders, there should not be any issues.
