Hokuyo UXM-30LN-PW lidar - gives no data

Hi, we bought a new UXM-30LN-PW Hoyuko lidar from Robotshop and I can’t seem to get any data off it. Does anyone have any ideas?

I’m using it via USB and can connect via USB serial, send commands II,VV,PP and receive the correct responses.

The SCIP2.0 commands BM and QT return 0E errors, (command not recongized), despite the lidar claiming to be SCIP2.0 compliant.

When I give commands like GD0000000100; to read the scans I get error 0A. If I call GD with different numbers of arguments I get 0C (wrong number of arguments). I have tried giving GD arguments wiht many numbers including sample GD commands from other scanners doumentations, but always get 0A error back.

Does anyone have an eampel GD command that is known to actually work on the UXM-30LN-PW ? Or indeed, any other data-returning command ? Or could this be a broken unit perhaps ?

Hi,

We have contacted the manufacturer concerning your issue and we will post here again once we receive more information concerning your issue.

Sincerely,

Wow superfast reply received from Hokuyo tech support – for if anyone else has the same problem, the answer is that this model of lidar does not return scan data at all because it is a zoning obstacle detection version of the sensor. There are different commands to set large zones which it then reports if they are occupied or not. They recommend using the UXM-30LX-EW device instead which has similar form factor but does return scan information. Thanks Hokuyo USA !

Thank you for taking the time to post this information here! We are certain other customers will be happy to find this information if they encounter a similar issue!
