Hobbico CS-170

Are these servos any good? Their torque and transit times are comparable to Hitec’s HSR 5980SG

Was thinking about buying these

This servo basically the exact same thing as the Hitec HS-5955. Same case, gears, horns ect. It uses Hitec splines and servo horns as well. Also exact same dimensions. Infact the spec sheet for it is an exact copy of the Hitec HS-5955 sheet.

The CS-170 can NOT be programmed with the Hitec programmer though.

Thanks for the info, evolution. I have a couple of questions. Edit: I have a few questions

I’ve compared many of hitec’s high-end servos to hobbico’s. I’ve came to the conclusion that hobbico cs-170 was a form of “generic” brand servos that matched hitec’s 5955.

  1. what would be the difference between hitec’s 5955 versus their “robot” servos, 5980sg/tg? Are the 5980sg/tg just rated to a higher operating voltage 7.4V through testing, or are they simply just tested to those conditions?

I’ve ran my cheapie hs-645mg to 7.4v using my 6-cell sub-c packs I’ve used on my r/c. Power-wise, these servos gave a lot of “oomph” but of course thermally, it did not like it.

  1. I’m new to the digital-servos and lack many understanding of them. What does “programming” them actually do? Are digital servos ready to be used like the analogs out of the box? Or do I have to buy a programmer to begin to use them?

This thread should answer all of your questions. Man I’m glad I stickied that thread.

I’m thinking about buying these to augment my biped scout. I’m thinking about replacing the three critical servos, primarily the servos used on the knee, and servo above it and below it. I’ve noticed that my hs-645s aren’t really up to par for lifting the biped scout. I’ve also considered just buying more brackets and the biped humanoid chassis and go that route since I’m going have 6 hs-645mg servo left over after I purchase 6 of these cs-170s. What is your opinion about the biped scout? I really believe that the humanoid style legs will put less strain on the servos on the average. What do you think?

It will probably put less strain on the knee servo, but I think exept or that it will be good. I think too that the gait of a normal biped wil be able to have longer gaits while keeping it’s balance.

What I really want to know is those CS-170 you bought? can you comment on then? Are they good? heat up too fast etc.?

I haven’t bought them yet, just wanted to see if anyone else here has any experience with them, particularly with bipeds, even more specifically with the scout (lynx 209 or the regular scout).

Curious note, I was watching some of the lexan-based scouts, the “head” where the batteries are usually mounted, seems to be a lot wider then the current one…

I have 4 in a 1/4 scale Aerobatics plane. Running some monster Elevators. They have always performed great for me.

I was always under the impression they ARE a Hitec 5955. Just rebadged. But they appear to have the same casing, gears and splines. And the parts are interchangeable with the HS-5955.
