I’m thinking maybe some of the shots that you may have seen and assumed were CGI were actually taken with a camera using this kind of setup. Seems like there’s been a lot of that recently (ie the scene from inception where they are fighting in a spinning hallway in a hotel was not done with CGI… it was done by building a giant spinning hallway with mechanically controlled cameras)
