I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.
Hi im trying to find a 12v dc 10amp motor cotroller to adapt to use old golf trolley motors
im looking for a motor controller where the speed is controlled via a potiemeter that can be plugged in for use but when the potietiometer is removed the motor would be at standstill .
i would fit the potentiometer via way of a cable and a 2 or 3 pin connector.
The requirements you list are fairly simple to meet.
Are you wanting to build or buy a controller? There may be something available commercially that could be easily adaptable to what you need. I doubt there is anything that would not require any modification. If you have some electronics experience it wouldn’t be hard to build one.
What speed range (in percent) do you need? 0 to about 100% or something else?
What’s the purpose of making the potentiometer removable? It isn’t hard to accommodate that requirement but it will add a little complexity.
thanks for the reply,
im looking for a mass produced unit. it just has to stop the motor running when the pot is in plugged
initially i bought one but when modified with a detachable potentiometer , when it was removed the motors went to 100%
i want the motors to go to zero when i unplug the pot, to stop it running off on me
If you use a connector for the cable that shorts across the contacts when the cable is removed you can make the one you have work. I would have to see the wiring to tell you exactly how to do that, but basically you want a 0 ohms short circuit where the potentiometer was. A headphone connector that connects the speaker when the headphones are removed is the same type of connector. That could probably be used.
ok, thats a cool idea, thanks, ill try and get the scematic but im not sure if thats possible.
i think the original controller incorporated somekind of relay into the circuit.
