I have 10 years of IT and Computer experiance along with 5 years of Java and C# development. I am starting to learn C++ and have an idea of the first robot I want to build. It will be based on the tutorial on this website. The last time I did anything in BASIC language was when I was 10 lol. But anyway here is my list of hardware from what I have learned on this site so far. Can you please let me know if it will work or if I will need anything extra to make it work?
Hello, and welcome! I’v read the previous posts and observed that you have been talking about voltage regulation. You’ll have to double check all your hardware to make sure that this will work, but I’ve used three 1.5V AA batteries to get 4.5V for my robot. I’ve used the ping ultrasonic range sensor with 4.5V and it works fine, and picaxes will run on 4.5V. I’m not sure about your servos though.
One thing is…It’s very easy to get the 08M picaxe to work with the Ping Ultrasonic Sensor, but that is because you can change the inputs into outputs and vice versa. The Ping sensor uses one line as the input and output. You might want to make sure that you will be able to use the Ping sensor with your microcontroller. If not, an alternative (but not the only alternative) would be the maxbotix ultrasonic sensors or sharp infrared sensors because they output an analog voltage that you can measure directly. I do however, remember an article where someone got the ping sensor to work with a picaxe that wasn’t the 08M. You can probably search around the site and find that article.
I also noticed on your list that you got a breadboard regulator kit. Will the regulator that it comes with not work?
haha The funny thing is I am getting a hot glue gun. And I have always used my teeth for stripping wires. Some habits are harder to break. Thanks for the welcome.
I found the LD293 really easy to use, only problem i found was with it overheating ( Im still to figure that out as ive been ill for two weeks =/). The ping)) i found really easy to get working and havent had any problems at all with it yet.
The Ping… I am a little worried about the ping sensor. The Ping is a 3 pin set-up instead of a 4 pin. This has caused some problems for some people including me. There is a thread lying around here somewhere about it. I’ll see if I can find it.
dont use my pings capabilities anywhere near as much as you, ive only built one bot so far and ive been doing this for a couple of months. Its easy to set up and use which is why i like it.
