As i said, im new to the robot building and programing world,
i was watching robogames 2011, and i was amazed , i looked at the website as soon as it was over and saw this thing called
“Mech Warfare”. i thought it looked really cool, and i wanted to try it, but im really confused and i have no idea where to start , i want to make a quadrapod, but i dont know what parts i need or even where to start. i could really use some advice on this one.
hi and welcome. you got the robot bug too hay? lol
well as Alan mentioned, its easier to get a hexapod robot to walk than a quad. this is due to being able to support the robot’s stability while walking along with many other reasons.
the reason i picked to talk able stability is this is a major factor with quads.
I too would say start of with a hexapod robot. lynxmotion have quite a selection to chose from: lynxmotion.com/c-3-hexapods.aspx
software:
lynxmotion also have a line of software, (most free) that you can download and use on your hex. this will effectively get it walking out the box. well after you build it of cause.
Quadrupeds:
i have build 2/3 quads now and let me tell you it is very hard to get it stable. “Xan” our father of a hexapod code we all affectionately refer to as the “Phoenix Code” would be a good place to start learning about programming.
using the phoenix code i managed to modify it for quad walking.
it works but i needed help with the programming. there are a great selection of people here willing to help.
here are some quads running on Xans code: youtube.com/watch?v=ZBnIbr1GWMc youtube.com/watch?v=lbs80kqb3Vg
IMO, and Alans, i would start by getting a hex kit. then maybe converting it to quad at a later date. … hexapods are so much more fun and versatile.
