Help with Motor Controller

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but this looked like the best one to me.

I’m building a tracked vehicle (design is attached if you’re interested). I bought 2 GHM-12 motors (12vdc 30:1 253rpm) and I will be using a Futaba 7C transmitter and an R617FS receiver (not sure if that’s important). I’m planning on ordering the Robo Claw 2x25A motor controller (BM-07) and the 12v 2800ma battery pack (BAT-06) to power/control the motors. I’m hoping that someone can confirm for me that these are the right items to get and that they will work together correctly. Electronics is definitely a weak area for me.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

The motors you spec’d have a stall current of only 3.5 amps so the 2 x 25A controller is overkill! A 2 x 10/12 would do nicely. I would recommend going with the GHM-13 instead. It has more torque, but it is slower. The size of the chassis is going to make it more challenging. I would go with 4 x GHM-13 motors, two on each side.

Hrm, ok.

I’m ok with the controller being overkill - it gives me room for changes in the future.

Thanks for the info on the motors. Not sure how what to do on that. I’ll have to think about that a bit.

Thanks,
Chris

Jim,

You need to carry the 5A RoboClaws!

I noticed that the 10 A and 25 A RoboClaw motor controllers are on sale!

Are these still the the Vers 1 controllers?

Will you be carrying the Vers 2 5 A, 15 A and 30 A controllers?

Alan KM6VV

Yes they are the V1 units. Yes I will most likely carry the V2 units.
