Hi, I am new to this site, so please be patient with me. I took a small robotics class in high school and just graduated. I would like to build a robotic car essentially that is controlled by my computer. So before I order everything, I want to know a few things. 1. Is it possible with the design I am thinking of. 2. Am I correct on the approach I am using. 3. Answering some questions I have. So lets dive in.
I am going to start with a plastic sheet for the base of where everything will stay on. I will be using 4 motors sense I want the car to essentially be “4 wheel drive.” This can also help with taking off some of the load instead of have 2 motors. For the board, I will be using an arduino uno r3 with dip atmega328p, a000066. The motor that I am using is a RS-550’s motor. Now for communication between the arduino and my computer, I will be using blue tooth. I will have a blue tooth shield and a motor shield also. Now there is a problem with the motor shield. it supports up to 2 motors when I have double that, 4. So I heard about stacking. So if I get 2 motor shields of the same one, I can avoid this problem.
I found a site that can help me set up blue tooth. So there are a couple of items that will be included in my shopping list that I will provide. The problem is can I have the code for the motor and blue tooth be in one code file essentially? And I also heard that sometimes you can’t stack shields. So the obvious question is will my shields work for stacking? If not, is there a way around it or to make it work?
For providing power, I am going to use 5 9v batteries so I can have a long run time or at least that is what I am thinking. So I know there are 2 types of circuitry I can use. One will help with volts and the other will help in amps or load. I have to use the amp one right and not the volt? You will see my 9v snap on’s in the shopping list. Another thing I am wondering is, will the tires I selected fit on the motor axial that I chose?
You will notice I have no idea what to do for the steering. So that is the part I need the most help with. Sense I have no idea where to go with that, I do not have anything in my list for steering parts. If you can help with the part list for steering and building, that would be helpful. For the programming, I took a class in high school that was an introduction to python programming. So is it possible to do all this in python? If so, there are a few things I do not know how to do in python like calling motor and setting up blue tooth code. I think the blue tooth site used java, which i am not familiar with at all. So essentially if it needs java code, I will need code for that. By the way, I do have soldering skills that I learned taking the robotics class. I did make a electronic car in robotics but it was not wireless and was not very advance at all. The code was in a book that all I had to do was type it.
I think I have covered my design. I would like to keep the budget under $275. I know you will say, why not just buy one already put together for that price? My response is that it takes away the fun of building it and it does not have as much power as building it my self. I want the car to be fairly powerful. Here is the list and you will notice all the parts are from amazon, the reason is for convenience and I trust amazon.
