So I’ve taken notes from Jim’s CIRC combat robot arena, and am trying to raise funds for our Mech Warfare group to build an armored lexan/aluminum modular arena. Everything will be open-sourced so that others can build the same, and the modularity means that if other groups pop up around the country and need an arena, we can ship it as needed.

Have you thought of trying to take a few bot-guys down to Danville Virginia to link up with the 1/16 Tamiya IR combat guys?
Go look at their ‘battlefield’ on the AAF Tank Museum website, and then discuss the usage idea withren (aka girltankette)
Best way to convince her would be to get some locals to bring their tanks down, and run 'em about the battlefield… Wow her combat-boots off!
There is also an outdoor Battlefield a group uses that may be closer: one in Fort Erie (Niagara area) and if if you want, I can get ya a contact name there. I hope to make it down there myself this summer.
