Help Selecting UAV/Drone Receiver and Transmitter

I recently purchased the Lynxmotion Hunter V-Tail 400 QuadCopter (Base Combo Kit + MultiWii Flight Controller). The website didn’t say that purchase of a receiver (sold separately) was required, but the electronics and wiring guide shows the use of one.

What kind of receiver do I need to purchase? I also need to purchase a transmitter. What transmitter is compatible with the recommended receiver? I would like a minimum of 5 channels (throttle, aileron, elevator, rudder/YAW, Aux 1), but an additional Aux function (Aux 2) would be nice as long as the price hike isn’t too great and the MultiWii MPU6050 flight controller is compatible with a 6-channel configuration.

Cheers.

Hi milldop,

Welcome to the RobotShop / Lynxmotion forum.

We do our best to specify in our products description (Lynxmotion Hunter VTail 400 Drone (Base Combo Kit + MultiWii Flight Controller).
For example the need for batteries and remote control. We are open to ideas to make it more clear.

and under “What’s Included

For a MultiWii flight controller, you need a transmitter / receiver with the ability to adjust the “End Points”.
This function extends the signal output of the receiver to about 120%.

That said, you need a transmitter with programmable features and most of them (though not all) have the “End Point” adjustment.
Either of these will work with MultiWii:
Aurora 9 9-Channel 2.4GHz Radio
Eclipse 7 Pro 7 Channel 2.4GHz Digital Radio
T6J 6-Channel 2.4GHz Computer Radio System

All the best,

Eric (DiaLFonZo),

Thanks for the info. I was aware that I would need to purchase the remote, battery pack and charger; that much was clear.

What’s throwing me off is the figure titled “Receiver to MultiWii” on page 12 of the Lynxmotion Electronics & Wiring Guide (robotshop.com/media/files/pdf/lynxmotion-uav-electronics-guide-v10.pdf).

From your description, it sounds like the MultiWii MPU6050 is ready to receive remote control signals. Is the antenna built into the flight controller?

Thanks again,

milldop

Hi milldop,

The MultiWii flight controller can be connected to an R/C receiver directly but doesn’t have the receiver’s capabilities (the receiver has the antenna).
In the manual you can see the picture of the MWC connected to a standard R/C receiver and the procedure to connect it with the supplied wiring harness.
