Help need RC 12v DC brushed motor setup

I am so very glad I found this site and am hoping someone can help. I am trying to make a Remote controlled lure drag machine. I am looking for a kit or parts to make a variable speed RC 12v DC brushed motor unit. Needs to be high torque to drag item on ground. Can someone please help trying to piece together or direct me to a kit I have been looking everywhere and I’m desperate

@Wildechilde Welcome to the RobotShop Community. As you get into the field, this might help you get started:

You’ll need to get a good idea of what torque the motor needs to output (max and continuous). Do you have an idea how to estimate this? Normally a gear motor is needed since a DC motor on its own spins too quickly with almost no torque.

Once you find a suitable motor, you’ll refer to the spec sheet / datasheet to know the max current (at max mower), which you can then use to find a DC motor controller. Fortunately there are DC motor controllers which accept RC input directly, so just find one which can handle the voltage and max current of the motor you selected.

You won’t find a kit specifically for “lure dragging”, so you’ll still need wires between the motor and the controller, as well as a power source (batteries or wall adapter?) for the motor (which is fed into the motor controller), and the RC system you talked about.

Thank you so very much for getting back to me so quickly. I really appreciate it.
The motor is a hanger 12v starter with 248 oz of torque. I cannot for the life of me find out what the max maps are. I’ve looked everywhere.
