Help for selecting the right robotic arm

Hi everyone !

I am looking for buying a robotic arm and I don’t know which one could fit with my need, I would be grateful if you could help me selecting an arm (my budget is limited).

Let me give you more information on what I need :

I need to assemble small pieces of glass (square or rectangle shape, 3mm thickness) on a plate (20cmx20cm), at specific locations. The final work is to get this plate full of multiple stacking (2 layers) of small glass pieces ( these pieces size can vary from 0.3mm to 2cm, square or rectangle shape).

I have added pictures of the plate with the glass stacking.

I hope it is clear enough, in case it is not, do not hesitate to ask me questions,
Many thanks for your help !
Best regards,
Vincent

Hi @vincent0412 and welcome to our forum

You have an interesting project.

First, you can have a look at the robotic arms and gripper that RobotShop sells here: Robot Arms | Robotic Arms - RobotShop

May we know how big is your budget for this?

As I understood, you want to program this arm to pick up these pieces randomly to make a mosaic?

Are the starting (pick up) and end (place down) positions of these pieces always defined or it will be random?

I guess you would need a vision system here also.

Let us know.

Thank you.

Dear , firstly I would like to thank you for your answer and help !
I have looked at the Robot Arms page, but to be frank, they are all quite similar for me, I am not very familiar with each of their specificities

My budget is around 500 euros for this project.

I plan to put many glass pieces in a reservoir (canister) and I want the robot to pick them up (from this reservoir) and place them on this plate at the right location. To give you more detail, I attached an example of glass stacking I would like to realise on the plate (there will be many of them on the plate).

The place down position is defined on the plate. Regarding the starting position, it is a bit more difficult. I thought to place all the glass pieces in a horizontal square tube, and as soon as the robot pick one of the glass piece ( at the top of the tube), the entire column steps up a notch to freedom the next glass piece which will be taken by the robot at the next round. I still need to think about this step up mecanism, if you have an idea, it would be nice

Can you inform on what is a vision system ?

Once again, many thanks for your kind help !
All the best,

Hello @vincent0412 and thank you for your reply

There are a lot of robotic arms, so no one is really familiar with their specifications exactly. It is necessary to go through a lot of these, have a look at the specs, then think if the arm is suitable.

Regarding the vision system. It’s a camera which can scan the product and then send information to the arm about the position of the product.

Here are some examples:
