HELP! Broken Servo HS-5745MG?

Hi all,

I’m using two AL5D arms for my project. I’ve been working with them for days but suddenly the shoulder servo of one of them the HS-5745MG has stopped working. When i’ve tried to guess what has happened I’ve noticed the servo was extremely hot so I’ve almost burn my fingers when touching it. I’ve waited until it has cooled down and I’ve tried to move the servo unplugged and it is much more difficult to move than the other servo in the other arm, and before that incident they moved similarly.

I’ve tried to send it an instruction to move but it has not enough power to move itself. If I push it to the position I’ve sended throw the serial port it reaches the position and can keep in there, but alone is not able to move the arm.

So the question is: what has happened to my servo? It’s possible that it’s broken?

Help me please!

Thanks in advance

From the description you have a cooked servo. Was the arm holding a heavy object or left in a position where it was doing work to hold position? I tell people, humans don’t like to hold heavy objects with their arms out stretched for a long time… Robots don’t like to do it either. Always return the arm to a low stress position when it is turned on but not in use. This can also be caused by parking the arm incorrectly. For example if the arm is parked with the wrong position value, that results in the forearm being smashed into the bicep, the servo can get hot and be damaged. Always check to see the servos are not overheating when you are working with the arm.
