Hello I am new here :)

Hello my name is Matt I live in lancaster Ohio I am 15 and am new to electronics (AKA I have been taking apart electronics all my life but new to the putting it back together part :) and I would like to get to know all of you guys/gals.

be welcome, and have fun.

i can relate

hi matt i reckon i can relate to that.

im 14 and live in australia. ive got so many books on robotics, mechatronics, electronics. ect.

so have a good time and remember…

ROBOTICS IS A RELIGION NOT A HOBBY!

ROBOTICS IS A RELIGION NOT A HOBBY!

"ROBOTICS IS A RELIGION NOT A HOBBY!" LOL

welcome!

I’m 18, going to university next year to study robotics.

Certified electronic technician taking my A+ certification

for computers in about a month. I love it here, just

read everyones posts and the forums. The nice thing

about micro-controllers is all you really need is a

simple understanding of logic! Good luck!

**Good luck! **
Thanks I need it :)~Matt

welcome
Hi Matt, I’m Ana. I’m nearly 21 (this sunday I’ll be 21 xdd) and I’m on my last year of university. I study to be a teacher of English in primary school, and now I’m doing a subject on robotics. I like it very much, so I enroled here to share what we are designing in university with all of you. I’m from Spain. So, be welcome here

**thanks **

Hola, Ana. Mi primer idioma

Hola, Ana. Mi primer idioma es el Inglés y estoy crap en español!

Haha. FYI, ‘estoy’ is usually used with a verb to describe an action that you are performing. So I read your post as, "Hi, Ana. My first language is English, and I’m crapping in Spanish!"

And I think that’s just fine.

Dan

It has a language?

Naw. I’m crapping in French. What is Spanish for “I’m crap at Spanish”?

Actually, I suggest we cut this thread short, 'cos this is a family show.

Rubbish!
Your English is fine, mate.

I’m new here too
Hi,

I’m new here too. :). I’m trying to figure out how to program everything, what wires go to what part of the microcontroller, etc. I have a lot to learn. Help appreciated.

Thanks,

Brennon

The Trend

OKay, Matt seems to have started a trend of introductions here! Way to go, Matt.

Hi, Brennon.

Yep. Sounds like you have a lot to learn. I believe you’re in the right place. We have a lot to … impart. (I feel that “teach” is soooooo the wrong word. I mean who likes being taught?)

I’ve found that folk here have one of two approaches:

1) “I know the end result, but don’t know how to get there.” (quantitative approach)

2) “I want to know what I can do in order to establish what I want to do.” (qualitative approach)

Which are you?

I recommend you look at the “components” and “tips and walkthroughs” blogs. I won’t make more specific recommendations than that. I would be biased towards PICs, homemade PCBs, RISC programming and scratch building from scrap (one extreme) and I know many of the folk here favour ready made boards, Atmels and BASIC or C programming and bought out parts (the other extreme).

Enjoy yourself and remember this: there are no stupid questions.

Trend

I do have a little bit of experience, though I admit, not much. I have to say it depends, though usually I’m a “#1” guy. However, I have ordered some parts from Sparkfun, and I hope to build something cool with that. Believe me, I’ve been through every nook and crany of this site, PIC might be the best for me, as their microcontrollers are pretty cheap. I’ve been working with the BASIC Stamp, and as wonderful as it is, I’m not going to buy any more for $100+ including the board.

I’m a little confused as to what wires go where and why. E.g. the PIC microcontroller I’m getting has multiple I/O pins, and I don’t know the difference between them.

Thanks you so much for all your help! I really appreciate it.

Brennon

FREE!

Cheap = free, if you go to their website and request free samples!!

Get the data sheet for your particular device from teh Microchip website. Bear in mind that many of the devices have multiple functions per pin.

Free Samples

So each pin is designed for a separate function like sensors, sevos, etc.? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question.

I’ll sook in to these free samples, but I doubt Parralax would give me a free BASIC Stamp considering there’s not a chance that I’ll buy in bulk any time soon. Free samples were designed to let peopel know what they are buying so they are comfortable buying tens, hundreds, or thousands. You know what they say, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” I’ll see what I can do.

Thanks again,

Brennon

Datasheet

WOW! Thank you so much! The data sheet for the microcontrollers I ordered is really helpful! I’ve ordered two, but later I might want to challange myself to see if I can build 10+ smaal and cheap bots. I’ll probobably but more. Here it is: http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/docs/AXE023.pdf

Very helpful!

Thanks again,

Brennon
