I think at first you should know the total mass of your helicopter, after, with help of this program (http://www.hoppenbrouwer-home.nl/ikarus/software/propselector.htm ) you could find required thrust and propeller parameters to lift your helicopter.
Also keep in mind, that some additional mass of engines, electronic parts (such as controller, engine drivers, batteries, wires etc. ) going to be there.
In addition, some external forces (like wind) will influence your model, so in this case for extra stability and fast control I suggest to chose engines, that can provide thrust 3 times larger in contrast to required thrust for lifting empty helicopter hull.
And with final thrust value the motor with proper rpm and torque could be chosen.

That’s really helpful. My current motor has 7000 rpm so on that side I’m good and it has decent torque. However it’s very heavy, maybe even too heavy. Should I be using a more powerful one and lighter?
