Having problems with my sons caterpillar robot kit

good evening.

my 8 year old son is a huge fan of robts/robotics and he has been this way since he chopped up my pc when he was 5 because he needed the parts to create a robot of his own.

i decided to get the caterpillar robot kit for us to build for his science fair. we had ni problems with the assembly, but when it came time to hook it up to the pc for programming we hit a wall of errors and missing dll files.

1. is this a common problem with windows 7??

2. should the caterpillar light up afte rassembly or after programming??

advice and knowledge is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Typical Picaxe

Hi rhythm, Your error message reveals that you are indeed a Picaxe user. Any online resource about Picaxe programming will be able to help you out. There is nothing Caterpillar-specific about your situation.

Of course one major resource online is staring you in the face right now! LetsMakeRobots has lots of articles about this error. And about getting it right. Feel free to browse around or use the search function for “picaxe” and “picaxe programming”.

Or wait for someone to pass this page and give you the advice you need. For now, why don’t you anser to us, the two questions asked by your programmer:

- is your cable properly connected?
- does your picaxe have power?

Detailed pictures of your microcontroller and connections might help.

it is definietly connected

it is definietly connected properly.

i have loaded the caterppillar.bas file into the picaxe editor, but once i click program i get a mesage stating:

"hardware not found on com 4 -possible causes, ardware not connected, hardware has no power or hardware needs to be reset.

i am using com port 4/usb and i am using the usb cable that was provided with the kit.

thanks for the advice, i will look on the site more.
