I am thinking of using the Hagisonic StarGazer for tracking humans instead of robots.
One question I have is what is the maximum speed at which the tracking module can move for it to maintain tracking its location?

Andrew

Hi, I managed to get in touch with Hagisonic and their answer is that the StarGazer can cover a speed of up to about 15 m/s.
With regards to using the system on a human, they recommend against it because the sensor has to remain parallel to the ceiling to within about 3 degrees. Any tilting beyond that and the readings will have errors.
Hi, I work in a robotic lab and we bought 2 Stargazer.
We encounter some issues while trying to map large environments (multi-rooms + corridors).
The system seems to be limited to a fixed to only 13 landmarks, and no more can be stored in memory when running the “Map-building Mode”.
Whatever the Ref ID landmark we choose as origin, it always return “dead-zone” after 13 landmarks learned. “IDNum” parameter is set to 40.
We also test both devices which gave same results.
Is there someone who got the same problem ?

Adrien
Thanks for your fast answer Cbenson.
I have already sent a mail to Hagisonic but I’ve got no reply yet.
They may reply here in a few days.
During this time, I am working on a trick to bypass that problem now.

That’s is correct, the data may be erroneous. However, if installed on a wheelchair or scooter, it may work. Also some sort of stabilization (gyro or mechanical) could keep the module parallel to the landmarks. Good luck with your project. You may also experiment with the landmarks on the mobile and the stargazer module fixed to the ceiling
Hi Didain,
Welcome to the RobotShop forum. We have not experienced the issue you are having, so we have contacted the manufacturer to get their input. They will either reply here or we will pass along the suggestions.
Sincerely,
