So I put an order in at ServoCity (Robotzone inc.) because I needed some servo gears, some sprockets and a bunch of chain. They had a thanksgiving deal on for HS-5995TG servos, regular $119 on sale for $95 or something. So I needed 6 more for my hexapod anyways so I ordered all my stuff and included 6 HS-5995TG’s.
I got my order the other day and just opened it up. My HS-5995TG’s came in their original box with NO aluminum servo horn, no stickers, and no "normal bottom plate for the case!!
I know stickers don’t matter and I didn’t need the aluminum horn anyways but without the case bottom, I can’t mount them to the SES brackets. I
I’ve had trouble with servocity before. I had bought 8 Digital servos from them and they arrived in plastic ziplock bags with no hardware, horns or box. I later found out they did this to alot of people for awhile. Something about they were taken from flightpacks and sold separately so they didn’t have boxes. Funny their price never reflected this. Nor was it mentioned on the website. Plus I send 10 emails and left 6 messages on their machine, and only after filing a dispute with paypal did they finally get back to me. They sent me 4 sets of horns and 4 sets of hardware for the 8 servos I bought.
I am getting to the point where I hate ordering from them but I can’t find sprockets and gears that mount directly to servos anywhere else. They have alot of unique assemblies and parts that only they seem to sell. Stuck between a rock and a hard spot I guess.
Anyone have some spare bottom cases for HS-59XXTG series servos laying around?
keep sending those complaints I geuss. And thanks for the tip about their, how shall I put it-- “scamming their customers and lack of care”…unlike Lynxmotion, how I love Lynxmotion All the hardware and servo parts are all nicely organized and in their own little baggy with more than enough for 3 servos and their packaging is so high class…mmm, Lynxmotion rocks. I can never seem to brag enough to my friends about how I order my stuff from the best robot store on the internet!
All other places I’ve ordered from pale in comparison to lynxmotion’s packing and organization. It’s a class act.
I can’t really complain too much about servo city since I was well aware of their complete lack of customer service and lack of even pretending to give a hoot. They are sometimes slow to ship as well. I had one order shipped 2 weeks after I ordered it. They said, oh ya, one of the spurs was on back order. When I said that I needed the other $200 in parts right away and could have waited for the $2 spur on another order, they said “You should have mentioned that while placing your order.” I didn’t think that was the way it worked, especially when the website says IN STOCK.
Well I’m getting mad at myself so I’m done for now.
I think Lynxmotion should start making some spurs and gear sets for servos. And maybe sell some miniature chain and shafts. I know I’d like someone else to make them.
I also just noticed, I bought this 36 tooth sprocket specifically to cut the spokes and center out and use the sprocket ring on a 3" diameter roller bearing I made. The bearing is only 1/2" thick so there is a 2" hole in the center for other mechanics.
gets up on top of car i say we do a mass revolt against servo city and we all get free stuff!!! crowd yells in agreement from no wherelooks around…shrugs LETS GO!!
Against my better judgement, I needed a couple hundred feet of Heavy-Duty servo wire and my supplier was backordered. So I had to order it from Servocity. I thought, a $70 order, what can go wrong?
Well after 2 weeks I sent them about 4 emails asking where it was. Finally they replied “It’s been shipped”. That’s it.
Now 4 weeks after ordering I get it from USPS. The duty and taxes is $54.
On a $70 order!! So I looked at the customs slip and they marked it with a $210 Value??? The shipping slip inside clearly states $68.40 with shipping.
So I call them, no answer. I emailed them and explained the mixup on the customs slip, they reply, “we cant do any about it now.”
I replied that they could refund me the extra $35 in t xes I had to pay because of their obvious mistake. There is a big difference between $68 and $210. It was their fault, I felt they could cover at least some of the charges since the taxes and duty would have been around $8-$10 if they had put the proper value on it. I ended asking if they would cover part or all of the extra costs due to their mistake.
They replied, “no. not or problem.”
Their lack of communication, or even grammar for that matter, is irritating alone. Not to meantion that I’d swear there were 8 year olds running their customer service and shipping department. I’d hate to image them trying to package a large $600 from someone. Half of it would probably be missing.
This is absolutely the last time I will order from them. And I beg you Jim, please add some 1/4" chain and sprockets to your product list. So I don’t have to go through this again.
and other servo accessories. From what Im hearing from these guys, Im affraid to order anything from them! I would assume that the head owner of that company has monkeys running the business. I too think they are very unorganized. I would only buy their products through another supplier.
There have been times in the past when I considered purchasing from ServoCity, due mainly to the fact that they have a number of items that just aren’t available from any other source. Each time, however, I have been deterred by the - for lack of a better term - horror stories posted here and on other forums about their customer service, or rather their lack thereof.
My intent here is not to bag on one company on another’s website, but merely to make an observation about the contrast between their customer service and support and that of Lynxmotion. Although I have never done business with those other guys, I have always been more than satisfied with the speed, accuracy, and professionalism with which my Lynxmotion orders have been handled.
Thanks again to Jim and all of the Lynxmotion crew, for all that you do to make robotics a fun and enjoyable hobby!
I also would like to say thanks. Lynxmotion was the website that got me into this hobby and has kept me in it for the past two years and im sure many many many more years to come!
It was lynxmotion products that made me drift from R/C into robotics as well.
And their service, professionalism and products are second to none.
Just like Seamus said, Servocity has alot of unique servo access that no one else has. They are very simple things as well, like nylon chain spurs and 1/4" chain, servo mounted hubs and adapters, etc. Jim, your aluminum servo horns are just like their other servo products. If you were to have your hubs and some aluminum or plastic spurs and gears made with the same Hitec spline hub, you would be hard pressed to stock them I think.
I for one would buy all my spurs, gears and chains off you. And I use alot of these. I love gears and spurs. They’re like crack. lol
Anyways, sorry for ragging on another company here but, man oh man. They never fail to surprise me. And they have been ragged on in other forums as well for their lack of service, incomplete orders and late shipping. I don’t know if it is RobotZone Inc. that’s at fault here or if the operators of Servo City run independently. Either way, I would guess they loss close 50% of their returning sales by leaving a bad taste in a customers mouth after the first order.
If you are going to be spending real money, you may want to check Small Parts for components. I’d be careful about putting any large amount of load on a big sprocket only connected to the servo spurr. I’m not sure how much side loading they will take in the long run. I’ve seen a home made ball chain sprocket made for use with a servo, but wasn’t very professional in appearence.
Order with lynxmotion whenever possible They offer great products, great service and support! They replaced many parts for free and give tons of extra hardware.
