If you are using a regular 9 V DC battery, please note that it may not be able to provide enough current to power the circuit as they perform only well with very small current loads (10-50 mA).
The manufacturer recommends using a battery that can provide up to 1 A of current, which is far above what a 9 V DC batteries can provide.
As you may already know, if the current requirement is higher than what the battery can provide, then a sharp voltage drop may happen which may cause the system to not power up at all (or be set to an undefined state).
The first thing to do would be to use a compatible power supply.
According to the specification, the Archer cannot supply above 300mA and you need at the very least 1000mA (1A).

We need to narrow down what could potentially be wrong.
Which test sketch have you tried ? If you cannot get anything to work, we will have to guide you to the manufacturer support as they request RobotShop to push any problems to their support center prior to any replacement.
