I couldn’t find the glue mentioned in the Wheel Assembly Guide but found out from Wikipedia it’s just Crazy Glue. I’m assuming it’s okay to just use my bottle of Crazy Glue, right?

Well, Jim probably cites a specific brand of glue for a good reason.
I’m betting that super-glue (which is a pretty volatile solvent) will eat through the plastic/rubber.
I’ve had this problem with gluing the plastic of a Force Sensing Resistor.
I solved my problem by getting “Loctite Gel For Plastics”, which didn’t gobble them up.
I’m not sure if that’d work for you, since you’re gluing other materials…
So I’d suggest waiting for Jim to get back to you before you go ahead with it.
Oh… you can produce some pretty toxic fumes from super-gluing the wrong types of plastic… just thought I’d let you know.
nope, the CA that jim mentioned is Cyanocroalate glue or something like that, superglue is the exact same formula, but with the purpose made CA from the big RC racing companys all u r paying for is a label. trust me I race RC cars in my spare time, the wheels r actually nylon so that the glue won’t eat them, as long as u don’t use like half a bottle it will be fine.
Thanks for the advice, I’ll see if I can pick up some today at a hobby shop. However, when I search for the glue on the net (cyanoacrylate, or the brand name) I get all kinds of instant glues (thin and thick formulations).
[Edit - noticed 2nd post]: thanks … I thought so too. The Lynxmotion wheel instructions say to bond the foam to the wheel rims, so I was a little concerned about melting and such. To be on the safe side, I’ll glue the first wheel outside, just in case there’s some noxious fumes (my IEEE lab is in a room with no windows and 1 door).

thin stuff works better, well u get a better bond with thick, but since it takes so long to dry and once it comes out of the tube it doesn’t want to move again u really have to know what u r doing. thick stuff technically is better but unless u have been gluing ur own tires for 2-3 yrs stick with the thin stuff.
the thickness is what separates the name brand from the stuff you find at Wal-mart. i hear that the thicker stuff, once it finally sets up, is a little less brittle, which is probably what you need
Sorry for the confusion. I took the information directly from the manufacturer of the wheels and tires. I overlooked the fact that it never said Cyanoacrylate, just CA.
Even if you get the Slow Cure stuff they do have a excelerant for it. Once you have it in place just add a drop of the other stuff and it drys the glue right away. I use it on my plastic WarHammer fugures and trust me it is nice to have.
Hobby town or other hobby / RC shop will cary it. Even Hobby Lobby has it.
doesnt the accelerant make it brittle too, when i was building airplanes i was always told not to use that stuff if you ever plan on flying it because if you fly it you will crash it and it will not absorb shock well.
I found these nice Moon Buggy Wheels at Budget Robotics. I will be using them on all of the robots I build that have wheels. I already got 4 of the large wheels - they are quite nice and do not rquire any glue!

Those sound great for a small bot, especialy since they easily attach to servo horns.
Any idea if they’d work for a bot of… oh… 60 lbs?
I suppose you could test that by taking one of them and squeezing it very hard.
If you manage to squish the diameter down more than a 1/4", then it’s probably not suitable.
I’m sort of doubting that it would work well, though, since their description sounds like they’re made to suit those around the 10lb range.
Baloon tires are great, since they readily conform to the ground, but I find it’s hard to find ones that won’t squish too flat, and lose too much of their efficient round shape for heavier bots.
As it stands, it looks like I’ll be getting these from Harbor Freight:

As well as these for casters:

I’ve tried some of the much cheaper solid rubber wheels from HF, but they don’t grip very well, since the rubber is hard because it’s made for durability, rather than grippiness.
Hopefully the “cussioning” of the above ones is what I’m looking for.
As a backup, I’ll be getting these from LM, though I’m not sure if they’ll hold up well under the excessive weight.

If you think those moon buggies would work for such a heavy bot, I’ll pick them up as well and give 'em a try.
Worst comes to worst, I can always use whatever I don’t use on this rover on others, down the road.
