GimBal GBM2804H-100T w/ AS5048A Encoder

Hi,
I am currently working on some BLDC Firmware Development and ordered GimBal GBM2804H-100T w/ AS5048A Encoder for my home setup. I started out with STM32 Motor Control Kit with Gimball Motor.
Since I was interested in position control, I ordered the same motor with the encoder from robotshop but I see that there are only 3 encoder wires coming out. The 3 Phase motor wires are correct.
When I try to spin the motor using just the motor wires, the motor spins without any issue.
Since I was looking for A,B& Z ports, I tried connecting them to the motor driver shield. I tried different connections and when I try to do position control, the third phase current dies and the motor heats up rapidly.
I found the datasheet of the encoder from another post and the ST Application Note AN5464 which I am trying out.

I am not sure but did I order the wrong hardware?
