Getting started with arduino

Hello, I was wondering what type of motor driver I should purchase to go with 2 of the 7.4v, 1A planetary gear unipolar stepper motor. I am also purchasing an arduino uno starter kit. I am just looking to play around with the everything and start learning arduino.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Nick

Hey @nlandrigan and welcome to the forum!

You could use this one: https://www.robotshop.com/en/cytron-3a-4-16v-dual-channel-dc-motor-driver.html

Ok great! Is there a certain type that would allow me to hook up both motors? Am I just looking for a driver that has a higher Amperage and voltage then that of that motors?

Thanks for you help!

Hey @nlandrigan,

do you want to control those 2 motors separately or they should get same commands?

Separately would be ideal. I am a 2nd year design engineering student and next semester my group has been tasked with automating to motion of a rainfall simulator. So one of our conceptual designs is basically an x-y plotter that will be able to push a 200lb simulator that is hanging by a chain. So my hope is to get some practice over christmas break on a small scale version of what our design could be. The idea is to have the two motors acting perpendicularly to each other, both moving based on a random number simulation.

@nlandrigan in that case you could use two of these boards. One for each motor

You could also check out the Stepper Motor Controllers section on the store.

PS: Your project sounds cool! It would be great if you could share it in the Robots section.

Good luck!
