Gears in Sketchup

In robotics, you  usually want more torque or speed out of your motors. You can achieve  this by using gears. But how can you get them? You could carve them out from wood or plastics, or use a 3D printer. On my current robot, I would need 4 equally big gears. So I’ll show

Involute Gears

Nice. Using this Involute Gears it is possible to create gears in Sketch-up. I was looking for that for a while.

But what I miss is the gear transmission support. Would’nt be nice if the tool lets you make gears with the same module so the teeth match but the size can be altered? You know what I mean?

To make a transmission gear the diameters must vary from small to large but the teeths must always match.

Nevertheless… this post would make a good Tip.

PS: Involute Gears works with Sketchup 8 too.

I thought I might add to

I thought I might add to this:

Not gear in sketchup, but in case anyone’s looking for gear templates (aplogies if this is listed elsewhere)

Good for making humungous gears, but not so useful for smaller ones.
