Gearmotor with integrated incremental encoder with index

Hi all,

I’m having a tough time finding a BLDC gearmotor with an integrated encoder that has an index for homing. I can find many with the A and B signals but none with the Z (index) pulse.

I’ll need to run the BLDC gearmotor off 12V or 24V, need an rpm range of 0 to 60rpm, and expect the motor to draw 1A or less. The application is rotating a laser scanner ( LIDAR). So the index pulse is required for position detection. Id like to have the encoder integrated if possible.

Is anyone able to suggest a capable product for this application? I’m having difficulty finding something that will work. I’m open to looking at add-on encoders as well.

Thanks!

Hi @Agentaero
based on your description the z-sensor could be a hallsensor or photoelectric sensor on the outputshaft of the gearbox. Add a disk with a single slot and let it detect by the photoelectric sensor => homing done.

For 0-60rpm I’d suggest using a dual shaft steppermotor instead. They can have any encoder attached, too.

BTW, I recently developed a brushed DC motor that works as a stepper. These geared dc motors are available with different ratios from 20rpm-100rpm at 12V. The sample here draws 200mA and has plenty of torque.
