Gearing Servos

Hello, I am building the AL5D robot arm, but I want the base to be able to rotate more than 180 degrees. Since I am using code that relies on the servos being servos, I don’t want to hack the servos and make them motors.

Instead, I was thinking of gearing the base at a 2:1 ratio, so when the servo turns 10 degrees, I want the base to turn 20 degrees.

Has anyone done this before, have suggestions? Links to products, etc? I’m fairly new to this kind of stuff.

The AL5D uses a specific injection molded base designed only to fit Hitec standard sized servos. In addition, almost all hobby servos are 180 degrees, with the exception of a few, such as the 785HB. If you want to “gear” the servo, you’ll need to explain how, or completely change the base. Note that ServoCity products are not compatible with Lynxmotion products (you would need to make an adapter plate).
