I’m creating an automated measuring system and I need to reduce speed and angular measurements from a pneumatic motor to seconds (in DMS measurements) for a laser. I need the output angles generated by the gearbox to be in a digital format. I’m new to this type of designing (I’m an engineer, but not a robotics engineer) and would appreciate some advice on this part of the design. The laser is short range (10cm - 50cm range) and the operation requires two separate angles - horizontal and vertical (using two pneumatic motors). It is operating similar to a terrestrial laser scanner, but on a much smaller scale. The area it is operating in is very small, so everything needs to be compact.
