Gear motor w/encoder recommendation

Hi,

I’m looking to replace the motors in a pan/tilt system with motors that have an encoder (preferably an absolute one, but incremental is OK). The current ones are 37mm in diameter spur gear motors, 20rpm. They seem to be rated for pretty low current, though. These are the current ones: servocity.com/20-rpm-gear-motor

As replacement, I’m thinking of using this one: robotshop.com/en/12v-26rpm-1201-gear-motor-w—encoder.html
but I have two concerns:

  1. What is the diameter? I couldn’t find it on that page.

  2. Will this draw too much current? I’m concerned about burning the drive in the pan/tilt system.

If you know of a better suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Jose Miguel

The motor is 37mm in diameter with three mounting holes at 120 degrees apart, set on a 31mm diameter circle.

There is a good chance the two are mounted the same way.
The stall current is 1.8A, so it would consume ~1/4 that continuously under load.
Not sure how you plan to mount the tilt servo to know if you’ll be forcing the motor to stall?
