Frednet - Google Lunar Xprise

How can I initiat help with this?

Thanks,
Dennis

Well I am wondering if there is some interest in this from members. A lunar rover is, after-all, a robot.

My real interest in this is the concept of using human brains currently at the end of IP addresses to solve problems and progress humanity. Through it all corruption, apathy, profit and other bad human traits we will still come up with systems that foreshadow cooperative methods that ultimately help to progress our conquest of the universe and advance the civilization of each of us…

Besides, it can be fun. Even if we fail, relationships between persons will develop.

Hello Dennis, welcome to the RobotShop Forum Community.

So you are interested in the Google Lunar X Prize?

How can we help you exactly?

The Google Lunar Xprize is really interesting not only for all the robot technology and the fundamental science involved, but also for how the Xprice Foundation gets thousands of millions of dollars in labor invested. A lot of privately founded teams will participate and invest money in research and development. Millions and millions (if not billions) will be invested. At the end, only three teams will share 30 millions, but the result of the researches will be permanent.

This is a real kickoff for private and robotic space exploration. But what the real objective behind this is? Maybe Google want to take the lead and acquire the technology of some participants? Maybe Larry Page wants his next headquarter on the moon? Maybe he wants to be able to take possession of the abundant source of Helium-3 the moon offer? According to Wired Magazine, there is actually a Race to the Moon for Nuclear Fuel,

“NASA plans to have a permanent moon base by 2024, but America is not the only nation with plans for a moon base. China, India, the European Space Agency, and at least one Russian corporation, Energia, have visions of building manned lunar bases post-2020”

Whoever first find the way to bring back helium-3 from the moon will have a real power. I believe robots have a big role to play here. Larry Page believes the same thing and you know why? Because he is a real believer of the FIRST Robotics Competitionand you can even see him in this First Promo Videoon Youtube. This guy knows what robotics can do. This guy has only 35 years old.

My conclusion: This guy wants to go on the moon and robots will help him.
